Hedges Herefords... "Lighting up the Hereford world"
Hedges Herefords began in 2007 as a side line to Hedges Farm and our butchers shop, with the intention of breeding pedigree and cross bred cattle as well as showing pedigree Herefords.
We now have 28 pedigree herefords in total running alongside a mixed suckler herd which includes Aberdeen Angus and Charolais cross cows.
In the pedigree herd includes 12 breeding cows so far, 5 of which are heifers, which have cavles for the first time this year. These include our first home bred heifer to join the herd, Hedges 1 Corky, who has been shown with varied success in 2010 including Reserve Female Champion at East of England Show, she now has a bull calf at foot. All of the pedigree females are running with Cleland 1 Curl and Blakesley 1 Feildfare.

Our main stock bull (Cleland 1 Curl, a son of Dendor 1 Toff) spent last summer with Hereford cows as well as all of our suckler cows. Both the cross bred and some of the pedigree calves sired by our 2 Hereford bulls are sold in our shop. We also have Blakesley 1 Fieldfare, by FS 1 Versache, who spent his first summer in 2010 with a few pedigree cows and some heifers. His first pedigree heifer calf was born on the 31st May, Hedges 1 Flare. Curl is running with all commercial cows this year and a few pedigrees.
We out winter many of the pedigree herefords along with a few other cross bred cows. Last year they
endured around a foot of snow and never lost their good condition. Coverwood 1 Careful was even
shown for the first time. Last year they experienced very thick fog for 3 days and
extremely cold conditions down to - 22 degrees but they were still full of smiles every morning!
